A typical kitchen faucet installation begins with a review of the existing sink and ends with testing the fixture under normal use. The exact work depends on access, faucet design, connection sizes, and the condition of the old hardware.
Initial Review
The provider may first confirm the faucet model, sink or countertop openings, supply connections, and available space below the cabinet. The existing faucet may be operated briefly to identify leaks or unusual movement. This is also the time to mention a side sprayer, soap dispenser, filtered-water connection, or other accessory that may affect the work.
Removing the Existing Fixture
Water is shut off before the old faucet is disconnected. The remaining water in the lines is drained, and the cabinet area is protected as practical. Removal may take longer when mounting hardware is rusted, the faucet has been in place for many years, or access is limited by a drawer, disposal, or stored items.
Installing the New Faucet
The new faucet is positioned with the appropriate gasket or plate, then secured from below. Supply lines are connected without twisting or over-tightening them. If the faucet includes a pull-down hose, its weight and travel are checked so the hose does not catch on plumbing or cabinet contents.
Testing and Adjustment
The connections are inspected before the water is turned back on gradually. The provider may run both hot and cold water, check the spray function, examine the base and supply lines, and look below the sink for drips. Flow can also be checked for splashing, poor alignment, or interference with the sink.
Possible Complications
If the new faucet does not match the existing openings or valves, an adapter, cover plate, replacement valve, or other change may be needed. Some conditions cannot be confirmed until the old fixture is removed. A provider should explain any added work before proceeding when possible.
After the Installation
After installation, keep the cabinet area accessible for a short period so you can notice any moisture. Avoid storing items against supply lines or the hose. Ask which connections were changed, how the shutoff valves operate, and what to do if a drip appears after normal use.
